Who is eligible to apply?
You are eligible to apply if you are an ex-PY of the SWY program, creative, highly motivated to
travel the longest railroad in the world, explore Russia and ready for adventures. You are obliged
to pay a participation fee. If you are not an ex-PY, you still have a chance to participate if you
have a recommendation from an ex-PY (an ex-PY can provide a reference only for one person).
How can I apply?
You should fill this application form.
Application deadline is 7 February, 2017, UTC/GMT +4 hours. Selection procedure will be
based on the requirements meeting and the participating countries balance.
How will I be notified about the selection for the RUSWY train?
We will notify you by e-mail. The selected participants’ names will be published on our website
on 14 February, 2017 at the latest.
How much is the participation fee?
Participation cost is 1450 USD.
What does the participation fee cover?
Participation fee covers train tickets from Vladivostok to Moscow in the sleeping carriage
exclusively rented for the RUSWY Train program, a budget accommodation with breakfast
included, transfers within the visited cities, sightseeing tours.
Participants arrive in Vladivostok on their own prior to the program start date. The participants
are responsible for their departure from Moscow to the respective countries.
Participants are responsible for their visa. We will provide an official invitation for each
How can I pay the fee?
All payments made must be in USD ($). We accept payments by bank transfer or Western Union
Do I need a Russian visa?

How can I get a Russian visa?
Step 1: First of all, please contact your local Russian consulate and ask if you need an invitation
letter and if they would like to receive a copy of the invitation letter or if they require original
Step 2: After receiving a letter from the organizing team confirming your participation in the
event and making sure you need an invitation, you have to send us your scanned passport copy.
Please inform us if your consulate requires original papers.
Step 3: We will send you the invitation letter for the required period via e-mail or by post if the
consulate requires so. If you want to stay longer in Russia, please let us know at the Step 2, so
we could make an invitation for a longer period.
Step 4: You print the invitation letter and go to the Russian consulate
If your invitation is a tourist one, you pay a consular fee. The process should take less than 10
working days to issue a visa.
What are the travel conditions?
We will travel in the separate sleeping carriage mostly at nighttime. The wagon will be booked
for the RuSWY Train participants only. We don’t promise you luxury, but we promise you lots
Do I need insurance?
The Russian Consulate requires you to have a Travel Insurance to obtain the visa.
Do I need vaccinations?
No vaccinations are mandatory.
What about the weather in July and August?
It is summertime in Russia, so it will be around +20C +30C depending on the region and
changeable weather conditions.
Can I stay in Russia after the program end date?
You can stay in Russia as long as your visa is valid. If you want to stay in Moscow or visit St.
Petersburg we will definitely stay in touch with you. Russian SWY alumni in these cities will be
happy to catch up with you. Nevertheless, after the program end date it is your own
responsibility to care about the accommodation, commute, food, etc.
What is Transsib?
Transsib – is the short version of the Trans-Siberian railways. It’s the longest railway in the
world and connects Moscow to Vladivostok since 1916 year.
How long is the program?
The official program is from 30 July to 13 August, 15 days.
Which cities are we going to visit?
The RuSWY Train route begins in Vladivostok with short stops in Irkutsk (Lake Baikal),
Novosibirsk, Kazan and Moscow.
What projects will the participants work on during the program?
You will have 15 days to realize the assigned project and present it in Moscow. Photo,
storytelling, music, poetry, videos – just be creative and express your vision of Russia. You can
choose between 4 topics and you will work in the team of 8 people.
